In the initial two months of 2024, Azerbaijan witnessed a notable surge in tourist arrivals, marking a 46.7% increase compared to the same period last year, totaling 341,000 individuals. The top contributing countries during this period were Russia, Turkey, and Iran, accounting for 26.8%, 19.9%, and 9.8% of the arrivals, respectively. Additionally, India, Georgia, and Saudi Arabia constituted 6.9%, 4.8%, and 3.4% of the total tourists, respectively.
China emerged as the leading contributor to Azerbaijan's tourism sector in 2023, witnessing a remarkable 4.1-fold increase in arrivals compared to the previous year. Alongside, significant growth rates were observed from countries such as Saudi Arabia, India, Kyrgyzstan, and Bahrain. The surge in arrivals from China, amounting to a 7.3-fold increase compared to the same period in 2022, underscores the burgeoning interest in Azerbaijan as a travel destination. Moreover, notable growth was also seen from South Korea, Turkmenistan, and India. Additionally, European nations like Italy, Spain, and Moldova played a part in the positive trend, contributing to the country's increasing popularity among global travelers. The expansion of economy-class flights and enhanced flight connectivity from Baku have been pivotal in fostering tourism, enabling travelers to explore Azerbaijan's rich cultural heritage, scenic landscapes, and seasonal attractions.
